MUSICALIZADORES

Charles Long

I've been dancing Argentinian Tango since 2000. Initially it was my hobby, but in 2004 I left the corporate world and since then I’ve focused on dancing and teaching Tango. Ever since then I have focused on the music that we are playing, and the way that it creates the dance.

That is what has given me more than 12 years of experience as a Tango DJ.

What’s important for me is what the dancers are experiencing. I want to create a joyful and special atmosphere, where all the dancers can enjoy a rich collection of tracks, subtly crafted into a collection that carries the dancers along with it.  After all, it’s all about the dance, and what everyone is encountering at that exact moment.  It’s so fascinating to experience the effect that subtle alterations in the music can have on the atmosphere of an event!

I am the resident DJ at our milongas, which has given me years of know-how and understanding. At the latest count I have been the DJ at over 300 of our milongas, and they are now some of the most popular in the UK. And now I’m the guest DJ at more and more milongas across the UK, too.

Tango events keep me busy! I select from a library of over 30,000 files, covering over 6,000 Tango tracks, and spend a lot of my time researching and developing my Tango music collection ready for the next milonga.

As a professional I use dedicated DJ software  – never iTunes or Media Player – to allow me to manage the large library effectively and optimise the sound quality. I use a selection of external sound cards, and I’m one of the few Tango DJs who uses a 16 band equaliser constantly, managing and adjusting the playback to suit the acoustics of the individual track and the venue.

Jo Switten "El Huracán"

Jo's passion is Tango Argentino. He loves to play his excellent sets in milongas around Europe. He warns that he is an authentic tangodeejay and he does his sets in tandas and cortinas. His favourite milongas are Sunderland and Canning in Buenos Aires.

His music has great energy, a trait that has gained him the nickname of "El Huracán."

His favourite quote: "Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music."

Antonio Martinez

Antonio Martinez, Argentinian from Buenos Aires, a well-known and much appreciated teacher and dancer of tango, had the opportunity to gain his experience as “musicalizador” in Buenos Aires when he was collaborating with the organization Unitango. During that time he was the regular DJ at the weekly milonga that Unitango organized at Confiteria Ideal, the historic cafe’ of the “tango porteño”. During his years in Argentina he also collaborated with several milongas in La Plata (in the province of Buenos Aires).

Antonio is very much inspired by the work of Carlos Rey, the resident DJ of some of the best traditional milongas of Buenos Aires, like “Cachirulo” and “Lujos” at El Beso.

Since moving to Europe Antonio has been gaining a strong reputation as musicalizador thanks to his classic, but yet very personal and original selections. He creates well-balanced tandas of music from the 30’s, the 40’s and the 50’s.

Since moving to Europe in 2010, Antonio has been gaining a strong reputation as musicalizador thanks to his classic, but yet very personal and original selections. He creates well-balanced tandas of music from the 30’s, the 40’s and the 50’s, the "epoch de oro."

Among his many appearances, in Italy he has Dj’ed at the first, third and fourth edition of the Festivalito in Montecatini Terme as well as the "Milonga di Tango Firenze" in Impruneta, the "Milonga del giovedi" at Circolo Gardel in Modena, la milonga de La Torcacita in Bologna, Puntataco Milonga in Fucecchio, the Milonga of Traspiè Tango in Perugia and the "Fiesta Argentina" in Ferrara.

Around Europe he has Dj’ed several times at “Carablanca Tango Club Milonga” in London, at “Corrientes Social Club” in London, at “Cafetìn de Buenos Aires,” both in its original location in Frankfurt and in their new home in Hofheim, at the Milonga at the event “Tango Mania” in Saabrücken (Germany), “La Peniche” in Metz (France), at “Geburtstagsball Destinotango" in Frankfurt, at the “Abrazos” tango festival in Totnes (UK), at Wilmslow Cheshire Tango in the UK and at the popular Sunday "Milonguita" in Mainz, at "La Tardecita" and "La Nochecita" in Frankfurt.

Among his latest appearances he counts several consecutive invites at a very popular four- day event, Etonathon (UK) and regular appearances at the Milonga Florida in Paris, at the Milonga Confluencia in Bad Ems and Koblenz, at "Cafemilonga" in Heidelberg, besides the Despedida at the encuentro "En tus ojos" in Marseille and the Milonga Arrivederci at the first and second editions of the Saarburg Festivalito Tango and the Milonga de Bienvenida at the Saarburg Festivalito Tango 2018, just to name only a few!

Antonio is the resident Dj at "La Tradicional" Milonga in Saarbrücken.

In Antonio’s words: "Cada tanda va con la energia que es reciproca con los bailarines en la pista. Las cortinas, como un balsamo, descansan en el corazon, para volver en otro abrazo, como un bailarin de sueños."
